Fashion Week 2009

By MyImageExpert

It is fall fashion week in NYC and behind all the glitz, celebrities and drama, there was a lot of work to be done on my end. As you may already know, I own and operate a Fashion Consultant firm called My Image Expert www.MyImageExpert.com. I am also responsible for a custom couture fashion collection that I both design and produce in New York City. That said, sometimes I am called upon by other designers (much bigger then myself - literally) to fulfill last minute designs. Since my clothing collection is made locally, you can imagine all the calls I received for fashion week regarding last minute requests. Now that the week is just about over, I can finally settle in an share my thoughts about an incident that occurred a few days ago.

I was invited to be a guest blogger on a fashion related web site, much like this one. With the exchange of several e-mails, one of the contributors asked me to name my favorite trends for Summer/Spring 09. Anybody that knows me, knows I tend to over analyze things and it usually doesn't take much to get my wheels spinning. After the smoke cleared, I decided to share my thoughts regarding Summer and Spring trends for 2009 with the fashion network.

Spring/Summer 09 will be very a very interesting time for fashion. Fashion designers gather inspiration for their collection up to two years ahead of time. This includes the entire process from inception to completion. Inception includes the original concept for the garment including: color, fabric and style details that are usually represented in sketch form. Completion includes the delivery date that these garments are actually shipped the vendor or store supplier for retail. At this time, the consumer can actually buy and wear the garment.

Spring/Summer 09 trends were forecast several months before Spring/Summer 08! So in theory, the trends were created just before the majority of the credit crunch hit retail stores and consumers. By now, everyone knows that retail sales continue to take a beating due to the current condition of the economy. This beating has directly affected the designers and the companies they work for. Most of these companies manufacturer their own garments once the concepts, details, and samples are designed. The department store buyer will look at these manufactured samples and decide if they want to carry them in their stores. As we speak, buyers are working with designers and manufacturer samples for Spring/Summer 2010.

With that being said, this years Spring/Summer 09 trends, that are already available to consumers in retail stores, do not reflect the current credit crunch that has affected our economy. When the economy is bad, fashion trends tend to reveal the ramifications. Colors start to inherit neutral and basic tones like: brown, grey, cream and navy. This is because fashion colors (the trendy colors of the moment) are more expensive to manufacturer. In a bad economy, fabrics become less feminine and luxurious. Manufacturers use basic blends of cotton, wool and silk while avoiding intricate details like embellishments, sequins, leather, glitter and flaps. This helps to lower the overall price that a consumer will pay for such a garment. Hemlines tend to shrink in a bad economy. The mini skirt was first developed and designed by Mary Quant in the 1960's while in the midst of an economic recession. Less fabric is cheaper and lets face it, a mini skirt leaves little to the imagination!

This will be the first time in history when being fashionable is out of fashion! The collections that walked down the runway in September's Spring Fashion week were not designed for the frugal female or an economy on the verge of a recession. They were designed and created for the luxurious lady who loves to splurge on novelty items. When Spring 09 hits the stores many months after fashion week, people will simply pass up the designer brands and head to discount stores to buy what they can afford.

By now, my reply to your requirement is a bit extensive. I have to stop myself as I could go on for hours! I have decided to list my favorite trends in a more effective way that seems reasonable due to the economy and my above acclamations. It is possible to spend less and look the best! Many high-end designers have developed collections for discount stores like Target, H&M, and Payless. The best part about it is that no one ever has to know where you got it from! Here a few of my favorite high-end designers offering exclusive trendy and affordable collections. The trend for Spring/Summer 09 is to have the designers runway look at a fraction of the cost.

Botkier - purses, clutches, and wristlets normally found in high end department stores for $400-$800.00 available at Target for $50.00

Richard Thai " a regular style innovator at New York Fashion Week best known for his silk dyed garments! His dresses, skirts, and blouses are available for a limited time at Target for $13-$80.00. A Thai dress regular sells for $800.00

Alice + Olivia " a trendy women's wear brand in high-end department stores has released an exclusive collection for Payless Shoes! It will only be a matter of time before design garments for Target " Shh! Alice + Olivia shoes and garments usually range from $200-400.00. Payless has the new line for about $40.00

If you would like to include some of your favorite trends, I would love to hear about them - especially if they are outside the box. In the meant time, stay unique!

Spring 2009 Coat Check - The Paramus Post

Spring Coat Check - The Paramus Post

Spring Coat Check

Spring may have sprung, but there are still chilly days and nights ahead. It is cool enough to warrant wearing a coat, but not just any old coat. It's time to dig up the trenches, which is this season's go-to transitional topper.

Let's get real. We've all had those days when we want to cover up what we're wearing underneath, and a stylish trench coat will do just that. It can be a great wear-to-work piece, an evening coat or a raincoat.

Or, hey, just toss it over jeans and flip-flops for a casual Saturday morning coffee date. You can easily make a style statement with the right coat.

The trench coat, especially at this time of year, is one of the wardrobe staples you can't live without — next to the little black dress and the black pump. All three together make for the perfect outfit; you can pair any one of them with almost any outfit. However, the worst part about them is that after awhile, these key items can feel stale or dated.

While a trench coat (created by Burberry in 1914 for British military troops in the "trenches") is a classic coat you'll turn to anytime of the year, this is the perfect season to update your whole "coat" wardrobe. No one coat does everything. A satin evening coat is not your best bet during a rainstorm or an Arctic blast of winter.

Here are some ideas to keep in mind when choosing a coat from fashion expert Paula Reed, author of the new book, "Style Clinic" (Collins Living, 2009, $27.95):

— The most versatile for almost all figures is a narrow, figure-skimming, three-quarter length coat that hits right on or below the knee. It is both modern and flattering. Curvier figures look good in its figure-skimming sleekness. If you are big-bosomed, go for an open collar that is cut on the wide side. It will never appear dated.

— A soft, belted style is the next most versatile shape for most figures. It works as easily with jeans and trousers as dresses. Just make sure the fabric is supple enough to drape, not clump.

— Belts are great figure enhancers unless you have substantial hips. A belted coat will give almost anyone an hourglass figure. But those who are short-waisted or wide in the middle look better in slim, tailored coats without a belt.

— If you are curvy, accentuating the narrowest part of your body — your waist — will give you instant glamour. Choose belted coats, whether they hit below the knee or mid-thigh. But a three-quarter coat that skims the body will look even better. Short, boxy styles as well as voluminous A-lines, which drop from the shoulders, will make your curves look bulky. Stick to tailored and curve-friendly options.

— Puffy parkas only work on slim women. If you don't want to add extra poundage, opt for unpadded versions.

— On petite women, belted shapes that sit on or just above the knee will look great. Short coats increase leg length. Proportion is the most important flattering element when it comes to choosing a coat.

— There's no easier way to update your basic look than to slip on a coat with a little attitude: op-art patterns, vintage or printed leather.

Whats In for Spring 2009? Marc Jacobs

By Lindsey A. Wells

As the long days of winter are starting to fade into spring, its time to be thinking of new beginnings, fresh starts and positive attitudes. Spring is a time of rebirth and along with that comes feelings of excitement for the future.

2009 styles

Color is a major influence in this years fashions, lots of color. Not muted, or dull, but bright and fresh, distinct and aggressive. Yellows, greens, purples are the trend, and of course all in electric shades.

Dresses " dresses are always in for spring and this year is no exception, although this year there is an amazing variety. Simple 1960s inspired A-line shifts, Grecian romantic dresses, off the shoulder and tiers can all be found. For evening wear, the hottest item is the modern flapper dress. You got it, back from the roaring 20s the fringe is in. Available in a multitude of colors, try red to be ultra vibrant or black to be sultry.

Pants-watch for Relaxed fit, both for dress and casual wear. The loose leg with a graceful taper to the ankle will surely be turning some heads. This year pants are all about comfort.

Jumpsuits Retro Style are back to stay. Ok, they are not quite the 80s, but close.

Jeans-they have never left the fashion world, but this year, as was last year, the old beat up strained denim is once again a strong competitor for the fashion dollar. A few small holes add to the statement.

Jackets-a completion to any outfit, short jackets with embroidery made from velvets and high textured materials will always serve you well over a blouse or top. They are finding their way into both casual and evening wear categories.

2008 styles what a difference a year makes

Accessories - oversized, chunky jewellery is all the rage and worth picking up. Gladiator strap sandals, high legged boots, leather or patent bags, and last but not least, ornate wide belts.

So who is the hot designer this spring? Marc Jacobs. There is no way that anyone will compete with his mix and match lines. Everything from heavy brocades to light whispy fabrics have been blended with a wide color palette to produce a wild and fun line up for the spring.

Thats it for now, stay tuned for the fall 2009 look from Paris! It has been coined as austerity chick by some fashion journalists. Gone are the patterns and romantic flair they have been replaced by simple tailored cuts in plain black and white, although feathers seemed to be adornment of choice for some designers. Well delve into this in another article.

Shoes: The New Fergalicious by Fergie

Alright, there is absolutely no straying away from the idea of celebrity collaborations or clothing lines. The market obviously welcomes the idea, and so do consumers. Pop sensation Fergie teamed up with Brown Shoe to create two namesake footwear lines to fully capture the multi-faceted aspects of Fergie’s life as an award-winning singer, songwriter, and actress. The new Fergalicious by Fergie shoe range is priced between $69-$129

Fergie and Fergalicious. The shoes will be coming out in February 2009 through the company Brown Shoes.
While there she told reporters:
“I have always loved fashion because it’s a great way to express your mood. And I’m definitely a shoe lover. The right pair of shoes can change the feel of an outfit, and even change how a woman feels about herself. A woman can wear confidence on her feet with a high stiletto, or slip into weekend comfort with a soft ballet flat.”

Fashion Trend: Sunglasses for Spring 2009

It is quite clear that in today’s fashion-conscious world, a woman cannot have just one pair of eye glasses or sunglasses. Rather, she needs an entire eye wear wardrobe so that her eye wear isn’t out of step with her clothing choice for the day.

In case you feel you have few pairs of sunglasses and want to purchase at least one more you should know which styles are the trendiest for Spring/Summer 2009.

Actually you have a wide choice as there are many styles you can select from.

These include: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, 70’s style thick framed sunglasses, tortoise shell frames, gradient lens sunglasses, John Lennon-style round glasses, Aviators, oversized sunglasss, sunglasses with white or glitzy oversized frames and unusual –design glasses.

Ray-Ban’s Wayfarers are an Urban Classic. Such sunglasses come in classic black, vintage bright colors, or new two-toned frame choices for the ultimate classic style.

Looks very interesting!

The 70’s style thicker frames have been popular for a few years already, but you have to be very careful when choosing exactly which retro-inspired glasses are appropriate for you.

The problem is that you can choose a chic pair of retro sunglasses that you think are just the style, but end up buying a cheap knock-off, a design from a time period that isn’t in right now, or even a pair that is completely out-of-place that will make you to be laughed at all the time you wear it.

Tortoise shell glasses are all still hot this year. They will probably go out of style soon, but this year they are with us. They have become classic already and can be worn with just everything! A good investment!

The gradient lens sunglasses are one of the latest trends in sunglasses. These sunglasses have a peculiarity not in a frame but in lenses. Having them half shaded from top to bottom you’ll immediately make your image modern and stylish.

The round “John Lennon” style has only made a huge come back for women, so guys, you have to stay away from it. They look unusual and attract lots of attention, so, if you feel all right about being the focus of attention this style is just for you.

Rimless Aviators continue to be the staple pieces in fashionable eyewear and give us a sleek and modern look, besides, a wrap around style adds a suave flair. This is a decidedly sporty look, rather than a glamorous one.

Oversized sunglasses are the hottest trend for spring-summer time this year. Many designers have opted for this style in their collections and I think it looks fantastic! Massive jewelry, huge bags and at last oversized sunglasses – why do people prefer big-sized accessories?

White-framed sunglasses are hot for Spring/Summer 2009 and are very retro and very cool. This is a frame color and the style that returns us back to the 1960’s. I like the style and consider it perfect for the casual look.

Glitzy oversized-frames are a great contrast to almost-not-there frames we were so fond of some time ago. It surely draws much attention and you must be ready for that if you choose this style of sunglasses.

Big frames in a rainbow of colors, with rhinestones and gem type detailing create a very rich look of yours as soon as you put them on.

Unusual- are the ones which have a detail or some details that make the sunglasses look different from the other common styles.

The details allowing us to put the pair ofsunglasses into this group include: patterns on the lenses, unusual shape of the frame, additional items attached to the frame, hanging pieces and others.

There is one more style that looks interesting and unusual – sunglasses with the frame that goes above the lenses but is absent under them. Probably it looks a bit too sharp and crude but still rather attractive.

Well, dear Ladies, now you know what is hot for this season and it’s up to you what to choose, just opt for the sunglasses produced by famous companies because cheap imitations will look like a bad taste!

Spring fashion enjoys a splash of color

Spring color is a breath of fresh air.

The season’s delightful citrus palette, tranquil ocean hues and soft neutrals are a welcome stimulus package.

“In fashion, color often reflects what’s going on in the world around us,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, a research center devoted to the study of color trends and behavior. Right now, she added, people want a break from reality “more than ever.”

Bright colors can help conjure feelings of happiness, while more subdued tones evoke a sense of calm, Eiseman said.

This spring brings more opportunities than usual to experiment with colorful looks, she said. “You can take vibrant pops of color and set them against a neutral background. What’s most exciting is the reinvention of colors — how you put them together.”

Traditionally, one or two “it” colors emerge each spring. But as trends now blur from season to season, almost any color goes — from soft sorbet hues such as mint and sweet lemon to neon brights. Among Pantone’s top picks for the season are vibrant green, rose dust, slate gray, palace blue and super lemon.

“It’s so hard to pinpoint trends and colors any more,” said Nordstrom fashion director Gregg Andrews. “People don’t want to be dictated to, but they want practicality and versatility. They want options.”

If you’re imagining spring in neutral hues, Andrews says designer Donna Karan offers a collection of soft grays and neutrals that are almost “uncolor.” For delicate pastels, he noted Alexander Wang’s palette of feminine and subtle colors; and for bright hues, he gives a nod to Marc Jacobs and Cynthia Steffe.

Macy’s, Dillard’s, JCPenney and other retailers also have racks popping with color. You’ll find it on everything from fuchsia jackets and yellow cardigans to tomato-red trench coats and blush-print dresses.

Karolyn Wangstad, vice president and director of trends for JCPenney, suggests pieces in powdered pastels, day-glo brights and taupes.

Black and white has taken a back seat because it’s too stark, Andrews says.

Neutrals, he adds, even in shoes, are the new “black and white” and give the illusion of nude without revealing anything.

“Color has an emotional impact on the people who wear it and the people they go around,” Andrews said. “That’s what we want and need right now.”

Spring fashion's YELLOW FEVER
Sunday News
Published: Mar 08, 2009

By STEPHEN KOPFINGER, Staff Writer

Skies might be cloudy in March, but the sun is shining on the racks of the area's fashion retailers, where yellow is what's up for spring.

Indeed, it's not just any shade of yellow that's lighting up fashion.

We're talking bright, making a splash in shades of "sunflower, zinnia, almost like a banana cream or lemon drop," summed up Kim Krummerich, store manager at the Bon-Ton department store in Park City Center.

And then there's that particular kind of yellow, cheerfully titled "mimosa," that was declared "color of the year" for 2009 by Pantone, a nationwide company that provides color standards to design industries.

Described by Pantone as "a warm, engaging yellow," the color is turning up at Gap, the nationwide retailer with a branch at Park City Center. Pantone partnered with Gap in a line of T-shirts sporting mimosa and other vibrant colors. At Gap in Park City, the mimosa tee is $18.50.

Why all this brightness? "Usually, when the economy starts to take a dip, you'll see bright color," Krummerich said.

She might be onto something. In a Pantone press release, Lisa Herbert, executive vice president of the company's fashion, home and consumer division, stated, "We recently selected mimosa as the 2009 color of the year because yellow, more than any other color, best expresses hope and reassurance," she said.

"During this time of economic uncertainty and change, we are excited to bring optimism and joy to consumers ..."

Yellow might be an accent or a full-blown fashion statement. At aZura Clothing, a women's fashion store in Lancaster's College Row, a Voll rayon-blend dress, $58, goes neck-to-knee in vibrant yellow; its sunny look is enhanced by frilly ruffles at the V-neck and hem.

"Ruffles are huge for spring," said Susie Kelley, aZura manager.

Yellow, however, can be one of those colors some women find tricky to wear; depending on the shade, it might make those with a lighter complexion look washed out. But it can work as an accessory and brighten on a budget.

A cheerfully colored new accent piece not only perks up an old outfit but provides "the most inexpensive way a woman can upgrade," Bon-Ton's Krummerich said.

Even the classic "little black dress" can pop with a streak of yellow. At aZura, a black dress by Envi comes with its own built-in patent-leather, canary-yellow belt, which adds a thin strip of color around the waist; the dress is $168. A house label yellow viscose scarf, $22, can do double-duty. "You can use the [scarf] as a belt," said aZura's Kelley.

At Filling's, also on College Row, yellow plays a role in another popular fashion element, the animal print. The store features a three-quarter-length yellow-and-black zebra-print cotton-spandex top that reflects a look that's "always strong," said Mary Beth Filling, store co-owner.

"Animals are always popular," Filling said.

"It's interesting how they did the yellow with it," she said of the design in the Christine Phillipe shirt, which sells for $120.

Even brands noted for tradition are getting into the yellow act. A handbag recently seen at Bon-Ton by Dooney & Bourke, long-known for its classic oh-so-English neutral shades, sported a white background with bursts of yellow flowers.

"This is really stepping out of their element!" said Krummerich, of the $195 bag. "Flower power hits it off," said Kathy Bowers, of Bon-Ton's better sportswear division.

A pair of brilliant yellow shoes, by the Rampage division of Ralph Lauren, grabs attention at Bon-Ton; they're $49. Lauren is another designer known for his aristocratic, understated look. Not on these shoes.

The sun might not be setting when spring and summer wrap up, either. At a preview of designer Michael Kors fall collection in New York last month, a model was seen wearing an alarmingly large, blazing yellow-green furlike hat.

But that's the world of the runway. Whether or not yellow edges into fall remains to be seen in fashion reality. So enjoy the seasonal sunshine while it lasts.

Women's wear industry

By reklicom

Women should select right dress according to the type of body. Before choosing any dress, determine the type of body, as there are different height and weight and age. One should wear free flowing clothes in a single tone for getting a slim and long look. Try fabrics such as Georgette or chiffon for dresses. One should wear clothes according to size. Loose fitting clothes do not give good look to anyone.

One of the things that you could wear to the beach as a top is a beach tunic, If a woman wears a beach tunic, it can be quite sexy. She might find one of the sensuous beach wear that she ever wore. She could find them classy, elegant and comfortable. She could find them a good to catch some rays.

One might think that women who constantly renew their wardrobe spend a lot of money on women's clothing but this is not always the case. Nowadays there are a lot of online shops where you can find women's clothing at accessible prices. Furthermore, buying online helps you spend some of your time and avoid the crowded store. Online clothes shops have a variety of clothes with a wide range of prices and they even offer some of the most popular brands at discount prices. Online stores provide women couture clothing, women urban wear and other styles. If you feel like shopping, you can do it anytime from the convenience of your home.

Beach manufacturers make a beach tunic in many different kinds of fabrics. The fabric for a beach tunic should be comfortable as well as not able to cling to the body when wet. They should be able to protect you from the harmful sun rays.

Another myth is the wholesale clubs. You may think that these clubs sell wholesale groceries or wholesale club clothing, but that is not so. Here again, they have the same expenses as a retail store. There are advertising expenses, sales staff, building, insurance, and utility expenses that all have to be added to the prices. Granted that because you are buying in bulk, you can save lots of money, but you are not buying wholesale.

Get ready to wow the world with an image makeover- explore new dressing possibilities and expand your thinking. Find the best and latest styles in women clothing in Australia to enhance your image at exclusive online stores. Clothes that make you feel good and bring out the best in you, all at great prices and avail discount clothing and varied range from online stores!

Wholesale Women's Clothing is an online store that host some of Americas top brands like, Sean Jean, Makavelli, Apple Bottoms, 9.8 degrees and others too many to mention. Not only does Wholesale Women's Clothing house the top brands but also they have the lowest prices. If you've been window shopping or simply shopping, you'd know how crazy the price could get with brand name clothes. With Wholesale Women's Clothing, you get the same quality and even the same style of clothes as those shown in the store window but at half the price. Sometimes Wholesale Women's Clothing products can be reduced by as much as 70% their original price, where else can you see those kind of price slash when talking about the present trends in fashion. The simple answer is no where else but here, Wholesale Women's Clothing.

Women fashion trends borrow heavily from trends for grown ups, but include one important distinction: teen fashions exist within strictly enforced fashion subcultures. For most women's, clothing is short-hand for declaring which clique they belong to. Women's tend to dress in clothing that announces their affiliations and interests with crystal clarity.

Women's fashion will be moving toward stylish and elegant femininity this summer with pants taking a back seat to dresses and skirts. Bright colors are making a comeback this year with red-orange and fuchsia taking center stage. Cool, neutral colors may make a splash this summer in lavender and aqua shades. For women who prefer darker tones, brown is predicted to be the new black with trendy colors ranging from rich chocolate to light khaki.

The must have piece for spring summer 2009 is a stylish one-shoulder number. Taking the lead from the current trend in one-shoulder toga-style dresses and asymmetrical necklines, this year’s single-shoulder swimsuits are subtly sexy and sophisticated. The diagonal line narrows across the upper body and the look is seductive without being slutty. Plus it gives you an extra expanse of bare shoulder to tan!

One-shouldered monokinis tick two trend boxes in one, with both cut-outs and one-shoulder dressing. Marios Schwab embraced both features in a risqué piece of swimwear with summer florals and Hervé Léger by Max Aria’s spring summer collection of bandage-style single-shouldered swimsuits and bikinis provide some daring designs in the extreme.

Some monokini’s are not truly single-shouldered but their asymmetric-necklines give that effect. Iconic swimsuit label Gottex has some stunning designs which give the appearance of single-shoulders, but provide better support.

Cut-Away Swimwear

Picking up strongly on this season’s bandage dressing, dare-to-bare swimsuits from Hervé Léger are a typical example of spring’s extreme cut-out, knock-em-dead pieces that appeared on the runways of Spring 2009 New York Fashion Week. For something a little more demure there are cut-aways from Amanda Wakely, Carmen Marc and Miss Sixty. Gottex’s luxe-looking black halter-neck monokini with gold piping is chic and classy. Dsquared2 offers 3 different interpretations of the cut-away swimsuit trend, whilst Miss Bikini Luxe offers-up, according to Fashionishing.com, swimwear of “Cavalli-esque proportions.”

Spring 2009 Swimwear Collections

Spring swimwear collections are currently drifting into stores. Some of the best pieces which tick more than one trend box are available at online designer store Net-a-Porter. A cut-away metallic bandeau swimsuit by Melissa Odabash is likely to transcend seasons and Shay Todd offers up a cut-away hankerchief-style swimsuit with large ruffle. Metallics, ruffles and fringing are key looks for Spring 2009. Melissa Odabash’s black fringed cut-away swimsuit is flattering and subtly sexy, whilst La Perla has a stunningly chic gray bejeweled halter-neck, with gray being one of the new neutrals for spring.

Gottex swimwear leads the way when it comes to originality. A black two-piece joined by a naval anchor in gold, gives the wow factor, but with enough coverage to make this swimsuit a real winner for different body shapes.

Cocktail Bathing

For cocktail bathing at its best then the requirement is some sexy high heels and a glamorous floor-length bejeweled caftan. Matching your bag to your swimsuit is also super-chic. For some serious pool posing Net-a-Porter’s Runway Reporter 2009 magazine recommends throwing a black leather jacket over a printed one-piece. Don't forget to accessorize with some serious statement jewelry; an oversized necklace , large drop earrings or gigantic cuff.

How to Wear Swimsuits for Spring 2009

One word of warning. This season’s hottest trends in swimwear does not suit all body shapes. Cut-away monokinis and bikini’s tend to flatter a petite frame or those with smaller breasts; although some monokini-styles look great on an hour-glass figure. It’s all a question of coverage. If one style does not work for you, don’t despair. Whilst extreme bandage style cut-away bikinis are probably better left for those who are (or feel) the right side of 26, with so many variations on the theme, persistence and patience pays off when trying on swimwear. If big-busted then look for one that offers more coverage on the top, if wanting to hide a bit of a stomach then a monokini with a larger center piece will disguise more flaws!

Oh, If Only I Could Find A Prom Dress Cheap!

By Constance Van Oosprik

Junior prom was great because my parents paid for it all, including my very expensive designer dress that cost about four hundred dollars. The sad thing was that after spending all that money, my dress ended up dirty and with 2 small tears in it - presumably because I had the time of my life at prom, which I did. For senior prom, my parents caught on and decided to instill responsibility in me by making me pay for my own dress and pay my own way. This time, I had to do everything on a budget, including finding a prom dress cheap, and it wasn't easy, let me tell you.

First I did a bit of research on the different types of prom dresses. It turns out that not every dress shape is flattering for every body type. I'm a little light up top, so I decided that I wanted a gown that would flatter my chest, and de-emphasize my waist. That's where I ran into a bit of a snag. I had been through all of the magazines, and found a few styles that worked with my shape and I loved them. But all of the dresses in the magazines were outrageously expensive! There was no way I was going to be able to afford them on my budget, but I was not going to let that ruin my prom night, since its a once in a lifetime evening.

So, I got busy looking for a prom dress cheap enough to fit my part-time budget, and beautiful enough to fit my taste. I searched all over the Internet, and I even looked on EBay. I sized up one gown after another and then discarded them. It felt a little like I was looking for a size 10 soul mate! Finally I headed over to Edressmeprom (you can click below to go to the site). It turns out, they have a nice selection of sexy dresses, and many marked down on clearance, too.

When I found my perfect gown - a gorgeous purple, shimmery dress that accentuated my bust and hid my stomach, I was over the moon with happiness. Now I knew I could feel confident going to prom, and happy that I would be buying in the under $100 prom dresses category. I even imagined that the dress was non-specialized enough that I could wear it more than once!

It took awhile, but my quest had a good ending - a happy one. I have high hopes for your search, given that the web has expanded tremendously in the past 2 years, and there are crazy number of options for prom dresses for cheap. Save some money, girl and you can spend it on other areas of the night and have fun!

All the hard work paid off when I went to senior prom and looked gorgeous. My date was eyeballing me all night, complementing me on how good I looked, and I felt great knowing that I had the right dress. It taught me not to settle for less or to give up too soon. Find the perfect dress for you and you won't regret it!

Introducing Bikini--Teenie Weenie Bit of History

By Dennis Durrel

The bikini is one of the most well-liked and probably the smallest fashions ever made! The bikini was brought to the people by Louis Rard and Jacques Heim in a 1946 fashion show . The design was so immoral for the times that only a naked performer could agree to perform it!

Louis plus Jaccques may have considered the design for the bikini was an innovative one although in a fact it really wasn't such a brand new idea at all. Early Roman mosaics exist which show females in two-piece bra and pantie shaped costumes that seem shockingly similar to the modern bikini.

Based on several stories Rard plus Heim called their new bathing suit a 'bikini' after the site of the current nuclear weapons check at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. They believed the brand new bathing suit might have an "explosive" effect ! They were undoubtedly correct about that!

By the 1960's while the first Bond girl, Ursula Andress, came drenched from the ocean in her tiny bikini to the appreciation of James Bond himself, the bikini has become one of the most famous fashions in women's swimwear. The bikini had caught on.

Nowadays on shore and by swimming pools across the entire world, you will see a variety of bikinis. The thing which began it all in 1946 was really one of the most 'revealing'. It was a string bikini, with triangles of fabric covering up the breasts and genitals and only strings making up the rest. A lot of string bikinis also present coverage of the buttocks, but the one in 1946 did not. No wonder back then they thought it was shameful!

Another type of bikini contain a bandeau type top which has a rectangular strip of fabric wrapping the breasts, one with a top like a push-up bra, and more ordinary bottom pieces like briefs, shorts, or briefs with a teeny skirt attached. Up to date styles consist of the tankini which has a tank top and the monokini, scanty one-piece garment which looks like the bikini, leaving the midriff commonly bare.

How to choose a swimsuit

By reklicom

Swimsuits are designed to cover intimate bodily areas of men and women, subjects that have changed during different eras. Men's swimsuit styles are swimming trunks such as board shorts, jammers, speedo style briefs, thongs, g-strings or bikini . Swimsuits are designed to be worn on the smaller sizes so you may want to order one size up for better coverage.

Women's competitive swimsuits range from basic tank maillots to full-body suits. Many serious competitors use the full-body swimsuit style to take advantage of the specially designed texture of the fabric. Women's and juniors designer bathing suits have often been reduced to plain solids and unflattering fits in the mainstream industry.

Boyish figure: If you are concerned about looking like a boy in your swimsuit, go all out feminine with frills and pretty prints. Ruffles add volume. Worn along your bust and at your hips, they give the illusion of curves. Pretty things up with string bikinis and girlie prints. If you've got a cleavage, show it off with a plunging neckline. You'd look less like a boy if you show enough cleavage. Avoid bandeau tops and boy shorts.

Half coverage to the fanny include the men's and women's Rio swimsuits. Three quarters coverage to the fanny include the men's and women's bikini bathing suits.Swimmers generally try to reduce frictional drag by shaving the hair off their body or by donning ultra smooth suits. Because water is so dense, swimmers expend more than 90 percent of their energy just trying to overcome fluid resistance.

Hourglass figure: An hourglass figure? You don't really need help with swimwear with a figure like yours. Still, you can mess up your look if you wear ill-fitting swimwear or a bikini top or swimwear top that doesn't provide enough support for your breasts if yours are heavy. As long as you get enough support and the fit is right, swimsuit season is your season. Wear a bright bikini or a black maillot or a really teeny printed bikini. These are classics that you can get away with.

Top heavy swimsuits: If you're busty, show off your cleavage in a one piece swimsuit with a plunging neckline. The ideal bikini for you would be one with a halter top. More than anything, you need support. Here's more about how to pick busty swimwear that flatter your body shape best. You can widen your hips with boy shorts or a colorful bottom.

Swimsuit shopping can be stressful even if you have two healthy breasts. After mastectomy surgery, you may find it even more of a challenge.

Women with an inverted shape (their top is wider than their hips), should choose a two-piece with a skort or shorts. This will help balance their top and bottom, making them look more proportional. Women love to wear bikinis, men love to look at women in them.

Swimming is a wonderful exercise that keeps you healthy and fit throughout your pregnancy. Specially designed maternity swimwear is available in the market for you to enjoy swimming. Swimwear, cover ups, shorts, t shirts, and comfortable shoes in breathable fabrics are ideal for resort wear to take you through daytime activities aboard a cruise ship or at the beach. Casual resort wear styles should be comfortable and relaxed to wear. Swim laps in a chlorinated pool? No problem, try chlorine resistant and UV ray resistant suits.

Bottom Heavy: Try a skirted suit if you have more of a pear shaped body. You'll be surprised how fun some of the latest skirted suits look - they aren't as matronly as they once were! Vertical detailing on top: try on suits that draw the eye to the top of the swimsuit to look longer and leaner. For instance if the suit is all black, try on one with the design up at the top. Try straight necklines to broaden shoulders and balance out proportions - this will give the illusion of a more hour-glass shape.

Spring 2009 Makeup Trends

Every season we see new trends emerge in fashion and makeup. It gives us the opportunity to freshen our look and try something different. This spring we see softer colors on cheeks, eyes and lips, emulating the fashions that made their way down the runways.

Here are the hottest new makeup trends for spring 2009:

1. Flawless Foundation

This season's look is all about smooth, flawless, matte-looking skin. Save your shimmer and shine for summer and create the look of the moment with a clean liquid foundation or powder. Don't over do it though, you don't want it to appear cakey or artificial.

2. Sultry, Smokey Eyes

The smokey eye has been around for several seasons now and has always been a favorite of the Hollywood party scene. This season, however, it is softer than ever. Makeup artists' are using light grays, blues, and most notably purples, to create the look. Start by lining eyes with a pencil liner in a color of your choice, then smudge coordinating shadow along the lashline and into the crease.

3. Thick, Luscious Lashes

The focus is back on long lashes, whether you get them by wearing the artificial kind or use lash thickening mascaras to do the job. While enhancing the smokey eye, it keeps the focus right where you want it this season--on your eyes!

4. Romantic, Just Flushed Blush

Keep blush light in soft shades of peach or pink. Use products that are sheer and lightweight and apply just to the apples of your cheeks. Remember to use a powder blush over a powder foundation and a cream blush over a creamy foundation. Also avoid dark colors like browns or reds which can look blotchy or artificial.

5. Nude, Natural Lips

Put away your red lipstick for spring and reach for flowery pinks, soft peaches, and natural-looking nudes. Like foundation, lips should also be matte this season.

SPARKLESHELF

Fortunately spring will be here before we know it so it’s good to get our sights set on the upcoming makeup trends. From subtle earth tones to full on brights, spring makeup seems to cover all the bases and offers great looks for those who love a full face of cosmetics and those who go for a less fussy, more natural look. Here are 4 popular trends for spring and product suggestions to help you get the look.

Earth Tones
I have to admit that I am a true sucker for cute packaging, especially with something like lipstick that you are often whipping out in front of other people. The fab design on the tube of the new Coach Deluxe Lipstick (perfect in Sienna or Toffee) makes it ultra acceptable for touching up at the table in most chic places!! Clinique Colour Surge Eyeshadow in Slate works wonders for lining eyes, over pencil or alone.
Personally I really dig the O-Gloss, so I can’t wait to usher in springtime with the new Smashbox O-Bronze Intuitive Cheek Bronzer. You won’t look freakish when you let the makeup work its magic while you think about something else.

Purple & Nude for Nails
Nude nail shades always seem to be popular as the weather warms up but I like that the spring shades making waves for 2009 aren’t transparent, they have a bit of color depth in them. Try CDN nail enamel in Cocoa or I love the Iced Cappuccino shade. And when you get tired of nude, don’t worry because you aren’t destined to be painting on light pink, ladies. Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Vendetta is a juicy deep dark violet that I can’t wait to wear!

Wave of the Future
Facial highlighters are all the rage for spring. The Fresh Satin Luster Face Palette has a trio of creamy shimmers that will light up your face. Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 offers sheer coverage and a slight shimmer, while Estee Lauder Ideal Bright Blush on Illuminator erases flaws like shadows and spots and other things that come out in the night, while you are just minding your own business.

Bright & Bold
Dick Page is the new Artistic Director for Shiseido. His debut collection, called Perfect Rouge, boasts beautiful lipsticks and lip pencils, some in bright neon shades. These lipsticks contain light-detecting powder that makes the color seem darker in dim conditions and sheerer in the light of day. Shiseido also celebrates the bright color trend with the Proenza Schouler Blue Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow. Bobbi Brown has a fantastic piece called the Bobbi Brights Eye Palette in addition to various lipsticks and glosses in vivid shades to help you make the most of the bold and bright spring makeup trend.

Which spring 2009 makeup trend are you most excited about??
