By Lindsey A. Wells

As the long days of winter are starting to fade into spring, its time to be thinking of new beginnings, fresh starts and positive attitudes. Spring is a time of rebirth and along with that comes feelings of excitement for the future.

Color is a major influence in this years fashions, lots of color. Not muted, or dull, but bright and fresh, distinct and aggressive. Yellows, greens, purples are the trend, and of course all in electric shades.

Dresses " dresses are always in for spring and this year is no exception, although this year there is an amazing variety. Simple 1960s inspired A-line shifts, Grecian romantic dresses, off the shoulder and tiers can all be found. For evening wear, the hottest item is the modern flapper dress. You got it, back from the roaring 20s the fringe is in. Available in a multitude of colors, try red to be ultra vibrant or black to be sultry.

Pants-watch for Relaxed fit, both for dress and casual wear. The loose leg with a graceful taper to the ankle will surely be turning some heads. This year pants are all about comfort.

Jumpsuits Retro Style are back to stay. Ok, they are not quite the 80s, but close.

Jeans-they have never left the fashion world, but this year, as was last year, the old beat up strained denim is once again a strong competitor for the fashion dollar. A few small holes add to the statement.

Jackets-a completion to any outfit, short jackets with embroidery made from velvets and high textured materials will always serve you well over a blouse or top. They are finding their way into both casual and evening wear categories.

Accessories - oversized, chunky jewellery is all the rage and worth picking up. Gladiator strap sandals, high legged boots, leather or patent bags, and last but not least, ornate wide belts.

So who is the hot designer this spring? Marc Jacobs. There is no way that anyone will compete with his mix and match lines. Everything from heavy brocades to light whispy fabrics have been blended with a wide color palette to produce a wild and fun line up for the spring.

Thats it for now, stay tuned for the fall 2009 look from Paris! It has been coined as austerity chick by some fashion journalists. Gone are the patterns and romantic flair they have been replaced by simple tailored cuts in plain black and white, although feathers seemed to be adornment of choice for some designers. Well delve into this in another article.
