Plus Size Coats and Jackets for Women

By Shira Johnson

I don't know why but most women don't put a lot of thought into their coat when they put an outfit together for a special occasion. The focus their efforts on the dress, pant suit, purse and shoes but don't really think about the coat until they're on their way out the door. What's up with that? What usually happens is the coat ends up spoiling the whole outfit because it's old and frumpy.

You'll have a harder time finding a nice looking plus size coat that looks hip and professional if you live in really cold climate but it's not impossible. There are several trendy brands to choose from if you take the time to search online. The best way to avoid embarrassment is to take your time finding the best looking coat and not procrastinate. If you wait to the last minute to find the perfect coat for your outfit it might not arrive in time if it needs to be shipped.

The main advantage to purchasing plus size coats offline is that you'll support the local economy and you can try the coats on in person. You might end up paying a little extra if you find a coat you like but for the sake of convenience it may be worth it. Not having to wait for shipping can be very important if you need your coat in a hurry.

Whenever I think back to purchases I made in a hurry it seems that 99% of the time I've regretted my choice. It really pays to plan ahead especially when it comes to large purchases. If you think about it, a nice coat can last you for many years so it would be wise to be selective when deciding what type to buy so you don't rush your decision.

If you want to keep your coat for a long time make sure you pick a color that will go with a variety of outfits like tan, black, or brown. If you buy an expensive coat that only goes with one or two of your outfits you won't get as much bang for your buck. It pays to shop wisely.

Some women make the mistake of wearing a short coat with a long dress. This looks extremely tacky and should be avoided at all costs. You might think it's OK because you only need to wear your coat for a short period of time but people will definitely notice this fashion faux pas from a mile away.

While it can often be difficult to find plus size coats that are suitable for a special night out on the town it definitely pays to plan ahead. With a little effort you can find a formal coat or jacket that looks good, fits right, and doesn't cost a lot of money.
