Colored Denim is everywhere this Spring!

On a shopping excursion through the 3rd Street Promenade, I made two very
interesting observations. Observation one. Colored denim is everywhere! In every store I walked into, there were racks and stacks of color denim. While this trend has been emerging for a couple years now, it has finally hit a point where the stores have caught on to the idea. Cool! But then comes observation two. I have not see ONE person wearing colored denim. And trust me, I’m looking!

How interesting. Here we see the influence of celebrity style on everyday fashion. Colored denim in a rainbow of colors has been seen on all of our favorite trendy stars. Victoria Beckham, Fergie, Rachel Bilson, Rihanna, and even Vanessa Hudgens (well... she’s not really my favorite, only because I’ve been plotting to steal Zac Efron from her... Oops! Did I say that out loud?) So here we are with very photographed and popular stars wearing these beautifully bright colored denim, yet the masses have yet to catch on? Are we scared of a little color? Perhaps. Is it worth spending $200 on a “fad” pair of jeans? Maybe. Is jean shopping in general the worst experience ever? Always. So what is it?

Well I like the idea, and I definitely think its possible to rock the look so I’m going to help you all get on the band wagon! For me, what makes the idea seem a bit more approachable is that stores like H&M, Zara, Guess, Forever 21, and Urban Outfitters have caught on. They all have colored denim at very reasonable prices. And this is the best way to buy into something that is more of a fad. Because the reality is, how long are you really going to wear those bright lemon yellow jeans? Victoria Beckham only wore hers once!

So here are my thoughts in figuring out what colored jeans go with your own wardrobe.

Understand your style and start with a color relates to that.

If you’re more preppy, try royal blue or true red or kelly green.
If you’re more bohemian, try softer more neutralized colors like lavender, butter yellow. and sherbet orange.
If you’re more glam, try the bright purple and magenta or bright yellow.
If you’re feminine, try pink or seafoam green.

Color is happening right now, so let’s see you sprinkle the sidewalks with colored denim and I’ll see you on the streets!
