Warning Cosmetic Alert
A Serious Warning about Nano-Technology in Cosmeceuticals
Dr. Epstein has serious concerns about cosmetic products containing nano-particles, and that the facts about these technologies are being hidden and ignored.
These ingredients are used in many different brands of cosmetics and cosmeceuticals, so I encourage you to use this information to evaluate ANY type of cosmetic you’re considering buying.
Some of these nano-particles are so dangerous, in fact, they’re slowly but surely becoming known as “universal asbestos.”
“There is no labeling of the warning at all of the dangers of these nanoparticles, instead they are touted as reducing wrinkling and firming up the skin surface,” he says.
"However, the use of nanoparticles in cosmeceuticals, whether they are sham cosmeceuticals or whether they’re bonafide cosmeceuticals, poses an extraordinarily dangerous and unrecognized public health hazards.
Nanoparticles, because of their ultramicroscopic size, readily penetrate the skin, can invade underlying blood vessels, get into the general blood stream, and produce distant toxic effects.
We already have evidence of this, including toxic effects in the brain, degenerative disorders in the brain, and nerve damage. So we’re dealing here with one of the most dangerous types of products in the whole cosmetic industry.
In May 2006, the Friends of the Earth – a global network of grassroots groups in nearly 80 countries -- published a report on nanoparticles titled “Nanoparticles, sunscreens and cosmetics: Small ingredients, big risks.”
They warned that these high risk products must be banned and removed from the market to protect public health.
“About two years later, in mid-2008, the British Royal Commission report warned that products that contain nanoparticles pose very, very high toxic risks,” Epstein says.
Many products can also contain other toxic ingredients, such as allergens, toxic hormonal ingredients, and known carcinogens such as:
* Ethylene oxide
* Dioxane
* Nitrosamines
* Formaldehyde
* Acrylamide
These are known carcinogens, and should not be present in anything you slather on your skin. Epstein says:
“… the evidence which we’ve accumulated so far, is largely restricted to the fact that they [nano particles] get into your bloodstream and reach organs throughout your body.
And as far as the brain is concerned, we have actual evidence of entry into the brain and producing toxic effects -- lesions, small lesions, toxic effects in the brain.”

Stunning Spring and Summer 2010 Shoe Fashions
Watch CBS News Videos Online
cbsnews.com -Over the years, shoe heels have climbed as high as 10 inches (Alexander McQueen's infamous shoes from last fall's runway show), and women have sported such extreme looks as "Pretty Woman" thigh-high boots. And this season, according to Katrina Szish, "Early Show" Style Contributor, is no different. Szish explained on the broadcast Tuesday that shoe designers continue to push the envelope for spring and summer footwear. She says this season's shoes -- with strap, zipper and fringe features -- definitely have a "wow" effect.
Szish says designers have let loose with shoes designs this season -- the higher, the brighter, the more "out there" the better.
"Top trends include extreme platforms, updated clogs, cut-out summer booties, bold colors and unique heel construction," she said. "Stella McCartney even created a reinterpretation of the Birkenstock sandal -- with a stiletto heel! Nothing is off-limits this season."
Szish shared these looks for fashionistas at any price point:
FRINGE: BRUNO FRISONI
Fringe is all over handbags this season, but Bruno Frisoni brought it to shoes in a BIG way. The bright pink suede also taps into the color trend for summer. Pair with a graphic patterned top or dress to keep fresh and modern and to avoid looking too cowgirl-y.
Bruno Frisoni pink fringe heels, Neiman Marcus, $983.40
BCBG graphic dress, Zappos.com, $165.00
Robert Rodriguez leggings, Zappos.com, $142.00
PLATFORM WEDGE: CASADEI
This season, the higher the shoe, the better!
CASADEI, Style 4871 Patent Slingback sculpted wedge teal, patent leather,
$650, Casadei.com
French Connection dress, Zappos.com, $138.00
EMBELLISHED: GIUSEPPE ZANOTTI
Encrusted embellishments are amped up with these Giuseppe Zanotti yellow strappy sandals -- they look like they came straight from the candy store -- and in this case, they are pure eye candy. Pair with a form-fitting, brightly colored dress, and stay away from patterns, which are too busy when paired with the shoes.
Giuseppe Zanotti embellished heels, Zappos Couture, Couture.Zappos.com, $1,595.00
Three Dots dress, Zappos.com, $135.00
RUFFLES: BRUNO FRISONI
Ruffles were huge on the spring runways, and they are making a major statement on these dramatic evening sandals. The delicate peach shade balances the eye-catching, crinkled fabric details. Keep the rest of the ensemble simple -- it's all about the shoes when there's this much volume.
Bruno Frisoni heels, Neiman Marcus, $907.50
Gabriella Rocha dress, Zappos.com, $89.95
ELECTRIC HUE: JIMMY CHOO
These ultimate WOW Jimmy Choo shoes can literally light up a room (well, for 100 hours they can). The electric colors and light-up Lucite heels make these shoes half work of art, half fashion statement. When it comes to clothes, these shoes call for simple elegance with an edge -- an electric-hued feminine blouse and black shorts are the ultimate toppers.
Jimmy Choo Zap heels, Jimmy Choo boutique, NYC, 212.593.0800, $2,495
Robert Rodriguez shorts, Zappos.com, $200.00

Fab Spring 2010 Formal Wear + Prom Dress Ideas
collegefashion.net Spring is definitely the season for formal events in college. Whether you’re invited to a sorority or fraternity’s formal, a wedding, an awards ceremony, or a fund-raising event, it’s likely that you’ll be asked to dress up in something fancier than what you’d wear on a typical Saturday night. That said, you’ll still want to look stylish and have fun with your look. So, what to wear?
Below, I’ve found four adorable dresses that would be perfect for a spring formal event. While longer gowns may be more traditional, since it’s spring, I’ve decided to feature shorter formal dresses instead, to let you show some leg for the first time in months.
Keep in mind, however that these aren’t prom dresses. Although it’s totally cool to wear a shorter dress to prom, many might feel that they want to wear a longer evening dress to the event, so these dresses may not be appropriate! Instead, let them act as inspiration.
Outfit 1: Beaded Babe
You already know that I’m a huge fan of the nude trend. I love how simple yet classy it always appears, especially if you’re wearing a garment that contrasts just enough from your skin tone. This dress is so elegant, and the detailing is gorgeous, so I wanted to keep the shoes and accessories simple. The nude heels will make your legs look a mile long, while these bangles from Forever 21 are not only perfect, but they’re cheap too!Outfit 2: Techno-Tribal Girl
This navy dress is very simple, but with the addition of a fabulous necklace from Forever 21, you can immediately channel the techno-tribal vibe that we’ve seeing everywhere in fashion lately. To finish things off, the shoes add a feminine touch to this body-hugging dress.Outfit 3: Bold Bandage Dress
This bandage-style dress is so sexy, but still chic at the same time. It’s slightly longer than the rest of the dresses featured, but it’s a body con, which is an eye-catching trendy look right now. The black and white combo is both classic and trendy for the season. Finally, the pearls and simple clutch add a classy touch to a more eye-catching look.
Outfit 4: Sequined and Sexy
This sequined number is one of the coolest dresses I’ve ever seen. I’m a sucker for sparkle as it is, but the peace sign details on these sequins (look closely) made me fall in love with the dress. The peace sign detail is subtle, so the dress doesn’t look like an expensive Halloween costume, but instead looks like an intricate work of art. The necklace is a relatively inexpensive way to add even more elegance to this fabulous outfit, while the nude heels lengthen your legs without detracting from the look.I found a great site (hubpage) with prom dress ideas here is a sample:
Long and Formal Dresses
queen at your prom this year. Then these long flowing numbers might just be for you. Long prom dresses used to be among the pricier choices. But, this year the numbers are coming down along with the hemlines. Aside from the one high end Nicole Miller design to the left, none of these choices top out at more than $140.
It's your night, if being a princess is the experience you want, then make it so. Dress to impress with an affordable prom dress in luxurious lengths. Simple and satiny or beaded and fanciful, long length dresses leave 'em wanting more.
